Plant it and forget about it, it’s that easy but plant in a permanent position. They grow to around 6ft and make a very good wind barrier.

VARIETIES

  • Fuseau: A novel winter alternative to potatoes, with a unique and delicious taste. Larger and smoother tubers than the common ‘knobbly’ variety, making them much easier to prepare! Crops 40-50 weeks from planting. Low calorie, so good for slimmers! Try them boiled, baked or roasted. Equally delicious in winter stews and soups. The tall plants make a useful windbreak. Harvest October-early spring. Height 1.5m (5′) [Sutton Seeds]

SOWING

Grow by tubers.

PLANTING

Plant the tubers 18inch (45cm) apart at a depth of 5inch (12.5cm).

Companion Planting

When transplanting, if you put your seedling into a pot with the seed leaves touching the base of the compost, this will help produce more roots and give you a sturdier plant.

Seasonal Care & Related Posts

As they grow earth-up around the base of the plant, this will help secure the plant. Keep well watered and weed free. The plants can get as tall as 6ft. Putting a cane either end of the bed and using string to hold the stems upright is advised to stop them falling over.
